The traffic challan data of Gurugram for January 2020 reveals that over half of the challans were for illegal parking and wrong side driving. Out of 26,000 challans, 95,000 challans were for illegal parking on the roads and 48,000 challans were for wrong side parking generally by the motorists.
According to the Officers around Rs. 1.3 core was collected as penalties from 30 traffic offences in January. Driving without a helmet, driving old diesel autos and driving without seatbelts were also some of the reasons for the huge amount of challans.
Gurugram is facing a big problem of Illegal parking and wrong side driving today. This has become even a bigger problem for traffic prone areas and diversion areas like Hero Honda Chowk. A traffic police officer deputed on Sohna road says, “Although we are noticing a slight drop in both the offences after hiked challan rates and regular crackdowns, disciplining motorists in this city is a tough task” .
After looking at the situation, Traffic police have decided to conduct a detailed mapping of diversions and carry out a study over the accident prone areas to understand real road behavior.
